UAE AND RIM REACH AGREEMENT ON BLACKBERRIES

The United Arab Emerites (UAE) and RIM have reached an agreement that will keep Blackberries active in that country.  If they had not reached an agreement around 500,000 Blackberry users would have been without data service after Oct. 11th.  The UAE had threatened to close Blackberry data services due to inability to access RIM servers, which were housed outside the country, through legal means in necessary.  This would have created a security and sovereignty nightmare for the UAE, so they claim. WAM the state run news agency said "The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority has confirmed that Blackberry services are now compliant with the UAE’s telecommunications regulatory framework. All Blackberry services in the UAE will continue to operate as normal and no suspension of service will occur on October 11, 2010." [BGR]
