APPLE LOSES PATENT SUIT

Apple received some bad news today.  In the lawsuit brought against it by Mirror Worlds for patent infringement, the judge has ruled against Apple.  Mirror Worlds' claims Apple infringed on three of it's patents related to how documents are displayed digitally.  The judge agreed and slapped Apple with a $625.5 million judgement.  Apple won't take this lying down though.  They have already begun the the process of appealing the decision and has asked the judge to invalidate two of the three patents in the lawsuit.  In addition they have asked the court for stay stating Mirror Worlds is in essence "triple dipping" if it were to collect approximately $208 million for each patent.

The lawsuit was brought in the Eastern District of Texas.  This court is notorious for patent trolls for the better than average chance of winning their suit. [Engadget]
