Microsoft has officially announced their upcoming mobile OS Windows Phone 7 (WP7) will be GSM only for 2010 and the first half of 2011. This means in the U.S. only AT&T and T-Mobile will be able to carry any phone running WP7. Microsoft decided to confirm and clear up Verizon's early statement that Verizon would not have any WP7 phones until 2011.
Greg Sullivan, senior product manager, said "Even Microsoft doesn't have unlimited resources. We had to prioritize doing fewer things, really, really well." He also stated "For the worldwide market, the vast majority of phones are GSM phones, so we focused on GSM first and then plan to deliver an update that will have great CDMA support in the first half of 2011," To help clarify "That's device availability in the first half and we're very confident of that. That's probably a conservative estimate." [CNet]
