RUMOR: YOUTUBE TO OFFER PAY-PER-VIEW MOVIES

The Financial Times (regsistration required) is reporting that YouTube's parent Google has been in talks with major movie studios recently.  The rumor going around is Google wants to offer pay-per-view movies via their YouTube web property.  Each movie would cost around $5 and be available at the same time as the DVD release.

YouTube has been testing a pay-per-view option, using indie titles, since early this year.  If Google reaches agreements with the studios they expect to launch by end of this year.
