PAGE REPLACING SCHMIDT AS GOOGLE CEO

In a surprise move announced on the Q4 results call, co-founder Larry Page will be taking over the CEO roll from Eric Schmidt. Schmidt will stay with company as the Executive Chairman focusing externally on "deals, partnerships, customers and broader business relationships, government outreach and technology thought leadership.”

“We’ve been talking about how best to simplify our management structure and speed up decision making for a long time,” said Schmidt. “By clarifying our individual roles we’ll create clearer responsibility and accountability at the top of the company. In my clear opinion, Larry is ready to lead and I’m excited about working with both him and Sergey for a long time to come.”

Sergey Brin, also a Google co-founder, will focus on new, strategic projects for the company.
