Not much is known at this time, but Apple's board of directors have granted Steve Jobs request for a medical leave of absence.
Jobs took a leave for medical reasons in 2009. It was later revealed, upon his return to Apple, that he had a liver transplant.
UPDATE: Jobs said he will continue as CEO and be involved in major decisions but has asked chief operating officer Tim Cook to be responsible for all day-to-day operations.
