Google has acquired speech synthesis company Phonetic Arts of Cambridge England for an undisclosed sum. Google has been trying to boost its speech technologies lately. Phonetic Arts was known for being on the "cutting edge of speech synthesis, delivering technology that generates natural computer speech from small samples of recorded voice." Google's Mike Cohen said the technology of Phonetic Arts help us "move a little faster towards that Star Trek future". [Engadget]
