RUMOR: GOOGLE MUSIC SERVICE

We have previously reported on the rumor of Google's music service.  We now have a few more details from a Billboard article citing anonymous sources in the music industry.  According to the report Google would offer per-track and per-album downloads for a fee, just like iTunes.  The new part to Google's plan is to offer users a $25/year "digital locker" which would allow them to play their purchased music via desktops or mobile devices.

Also, Google is requesting from music companies the ability for users to preview an entire song once and after that it would be limited to 30-second previews.   the full preview/30-second preview would work as well if users wanted to share playlists with others.  Google feels by sharing playlists, they can increase sales.

Google is still expected to have this service up and running by end of year if not sooner. [Ars Technica]
