LEAKED: BARNES AND NOBLE NOOK COLOR

Barnes and Noble is suppose to officially debut the Nook Color tomorrow, but a sharp-eyed CNET tipster has possibly uncovered the new reader.  The tipster was poking around Barnes and Noble website and found a "Nook Color Screen film" with a mock-up of a device that is believed to be very similar to what the Nook Color will actually be.  No other details were given. RUMOR: NOOK 2 WILL BE COLOR

Barnes and Noble have registered the domain NookColor.com setting off a tidal wave of speculation that the bookseller will be launching a color version of their Nook ereader.  The rumor is Barnes and Noble will announce the "Nook Color", a 7-inch color touchscreen ereader with limited tablet function, running Android OS, at their media event in New York on Tuesday, October 26.  It is expected the new device will retail for $249.  Guess we have to wait until Tuesday to find out,until then the rumors will be running rampant. RUMOR: NOOK2 COMING?

Hard to believe Barnes and Noble's ebook reader, the Nook, was launched a year ago.  Now rumors are swirling that a new Nook is on the way and will arrive very soon.  The giant book retailer has sent out media invites for an October 26th event at their Union Square store.

Additionally, an upgrade to the firmware for the Nook will be released late next month promising faster page turns, better search, custom library organization, password protection and Nook's own version of Amazon's WhisperSync technology.

The rumors also state a lower price for the Nook 2.  It is highly unlikely we will see much of a departure from the original form factor though.  Barnes and Noble will most likely concentrate on those things that users dislike and problems of the current version. [Geek]
