GAME DEVELOPER CRYTEK TO MAKE ITS GAME ENGINE FREE

Games developers are being spoiled for choice recently with the engines they can experiment with and use free of charge. Unity is free to use, Unreal Engine has gone free to use, and now today Crytek has announced the rather delicious CryEngine 3 is now free of an up front payment too.

Of course, the free model these engines work on means they only remain that way as long as your project is non-commercial. Want to sell the game you made? Then Crytek, as with the others will want some cash in the form of a standard licensing agreement. But until that point you have free access to the code base and tools, meaning you can learn without spending a dime.

RUMOR: APPLE TO OFFER UNLOCKED iPHONES

According to well-known and well-sourced iOS developer Chronic, for the first time, Apple plans to offer unlocked iPhone 4 models directly to consumers beginning Wednesday. Part numbers break down as follows: MC603 (16GB, Black) MC604 (16GB, White) MC605 (32GB, Black) MC606 (32GB, White). While pricing has not yet been confirmed, expect to pay a pretty penny for the new contract-free iPhones.

INTERNET EXPLORER 10 PREVIEW AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD

It was little less than a month ago that Microsoft finally released Internet Explorer 9, their much anticipated refresh that finally brought robust support for HTML5 and CSS3 to the Windows-standard browser. It took Microsoft two years to make IE9, but they’re looking to half that with Internet Explorer 10… and to prove it, they’ve already released the first developer preview.

Built upon the groundwork that Internet Explorer 9 laid out, Internet Explorer 10 continues to advance HTML5 and CSS3 standards in Microsoft’s browser. It boasts some new CSS3 features including support for multi-column and grid layouts, as well as gradients, transitions, 3D transforms and strict mode.

HOW TO TURN ON "HIDDEN" MULTI-TOUCH GESTURES IN iPAD FOR ONLY $5

If you are running iOS 4.3 on the iPad 2, or even the original iPad, you can turn on 'hidden' multi-touch gestures for only $5. These gestures include the ability to swipe your hand left or right to move through running applications or using 4 or 5 fingers, return to the home screen with a pinch.

Unfortunately, Apple doesn't want you have these yet. They could have included them as part of the preferences of the just released iOS, but they have been deemed only for developers for now.

To get access to these gestures you will need to download the new Apple Xcode 4 application and install it. Don't worry that you don't have iOS developer credentials during the install, just click cancel and disregard the error.

Once Xcode 4 is installed go into your iPad's general preferences and turn on the new multi-touch gestures.
