AT&T ANDROID DEVICES CAN'T USE AMAZON APPSTORE

According to PCMag, AT&T’s Android phones are the “most-locked down in the industry.” You can’t install third-party apps from outside the Android Market, which means you can’t install any apps from the Amazon Appstore.

We found out last week that Rovio said it would release Angry Birds Rio on March 22 exclusively to the Amazon Appstore. The exclusive app is available for free today, but it won’t be available for those on AT&T right away.

We checked on the Shazam app in Amazon’s Appstore, and found in the “Product Details” section under “Download restrictions,” there’s a part about AT&T saying that the company is working on enabling purchases from the Amazon Appstore in the near future.

Amazon goes on to say that if you have an AT&T phone or tablet, you currently can’t install the Amazon Appstore or purchase apps from it. You can sign up at the AT&T website to be notified by AT&T when you will be able to install it on AT&T devices, though.
